Ben & Jerry's goes the way of Krispy Kreme and Burgers and Cupcakes
The Ben & Jerry's on 23rd Street in Chelsea (between 7th and 8th, closer to 8th) is closing. Today is its last day in business. It joins Burgers and Cupcakes and Krispy Kreme in the junk food carnage of that block of 23rd Street, which I guess makes sense in a neighborhood with such a high per-capita number of gyms. (I mean, how many guys are going to walk out of David Barton Gym or New York Sports Club and stop off at Ben & Jerry's on the way home.)
I know I have ranted against chains moving into the neighborhood, but Ben & Jerry's is so, well, righteous.

Thus is the second Ben & Jerry's to open and close in the same location and Haagen Dazs on the corner of 23rd & 8th closed down a few years ago too as well as a frozen yogurt place on 8th between 21st/22nd which is now another frozen yogurt type of place. Chelsea does not support ice cream that well.

I believe the reason it closed is that quaity of the ice cream at this specific Ben & Jerrys was the worst. It always looked as it had melted and was refrozen. So in the end it was due to poor management. What a shame because I actually like good Ben & Jerrys.
